Our Story

Ao Cacao: The World of Ethical Chocolate

Ao Cacao was founded by Thomas Netana Wright, a pastry chef and chocolatier. Drawing inspiration from his family heritage, Thomas combines his passion for craftsmanship with a dedication to ethical practices, creating a chocolate brand that celebrates its producers and community.

Our Philosophy:

- Respect the history of cacao.
- Respect the people behind it.
- Be transparent in all we do.
- Build something future generations can be proud of.

We work directly with cacao farmers and producers, focusing on ethical sourcing, long-term relationships, and celebrating the rich terroir of the Pacific and New Zealand.

A Legacy of Craftsmanship:

Thomas' roots in artisanal craft date back to London, where his mother’s family owned Wright’s Dairy in Chelsea, established in 1796. As the last direct descendant of this lineage, Thomas channels his family’s legacy of quality and artistry into his chocolate creations, carrying forward a tradition of excellence.

The Modern Era: Culinary Artistry Meets Social Responsibility

Thomas began his culinary journey under the tutelage of renowned pastry chefs William Curley and Suzue Aoyama in London. He refined his skills in patisserie and chocolate & bakery working in 3-Michelin-star kitchens.

The Rise of Ao Cacao: Redefining Chocolate Excellence

In 2021, Thomas launched Ao Cacao to bring positive change to the chocolate industry. We work closely with Pacific cacao farmers and New Zealand producers, ensuring our products are not only luxurious but also a reflection of our commitment to equity and sustainability.
